this project utilized the traditional technique of earthen mudball construction - which are formed by hand instead of using more contemporary wooden forms.

At Coronado Monument’s Kiva V in Bernalillo, puddled adobe construction was reintroduced as a method of historic continuity rather than replication. The work focused on constructing a footprint of earthen massing systems consistent with indigenous building techniques in the region.

Puddled adobe was used to re-establish cultural connection to the original practice of building in the area. The project highlights preceding methods to the broader, more modern adobe practices in New Mexico where material authenticity is defined through method rather than finish.
